Doc Johnson's 7" Ribbed Vibe is a very rigid non-porous and hypoallergenic plastic vibrator with a smooth, mildly velvety texture. A slight seam runs along both sides of its insertable length of 6.5 inches, but is scarcely noticeable except in two or three spots and is not pronounced enough to increase stimulation or to hinder cleaning. The 7" Ribbed Vibe is simply designed and consists of five globular bulbs stacked atop one another, each separated from the neighboring bulbs by a distinct narrowing. The orb nearest the base of the vibrator measures 5 inches in circumference and the orb above it measures 4.5 inches. The middle orb has a circumference of 4 inches, while the orb above that one measures 3.5 inches around. The spherule at the end of the vibrator tapers to a rounded point and measures, at its widest, 3 inches in circumference. The narrow "waists" between each of these globules measure approximately 3.5 inches, 3 inches, 2.5 inches, and 2.25 inches in circumference, respectively, from bottom to top.

Powered by a single AA battery, the waterproof 7" Ribbed Vibe provides quiet, multispeed vibrations of light to moderate intensity that are controlled by a dial at the base of the toy. Turning the dial counterclockwise turns the vibrator on and increases the intensity of its vibrations, while twisting the dial clockwise decreases the vibration intensity and, ultimately, turns the toy off. The dial control is irregular, and twisting it 180 degrees counterclockwise from the off position may or may not be sufficient to turn the vibrator on. The motor contained within the 7" Ribbed Vibe provides consistent vibrations only through the more slender end of its shaft, and their intensity gradually decreases nearer the base. This vibrator's "ribbed" design emulates that of many kegel exercisers and similarly beaded toys, particularly graduated anal probes, while the nodule at the end is well-suited to stimulating the g-spot and other targeted locations.
The 7" Ribbed Vibe from Doc Johnson's Black Magic line is one the most versatile sex toys that I have used. Its gently curved point penetrates easily, vaginally or anally, and has just enough breadth to to deliver targeted vibrations to either the clitoris or the g-spot. The three knobs located at the insertable end of the 7" Ribbed Vibe are slim, manageable for even the most sexually inexperienced and/or narrow-anatomied among us, and easily angled and maneuvered while inserted, and the knobs near the base offer a bit more girth for those who desire it. This vibrator's "ribbed" design allows it to be utilized in the same manner as many kegel exercisers, probes, and similarly beaded toys, whether used anally or vaginally, and the soft, velvety bumps and divots conform nicely to various parts of the body when used externally. Unfortunately, for all of its potential uses and pleasingly functional design, the 7" Ribbed Vibe falls short in some substantial ways.
At its most powerful the 7" Ribbed Vibe is capable of bringing me to orgasm quickly with targeted clitoral and g-spot stimulation, but only when using the knobs at its insertable end. These two knobs at the tip issue vibrations of moderate intensity when the vibrator is turned on high, but that intensity diminishes considerably further down the shaft. The vibrations felt in the knob nearest the base of the vibrator are almost nonexistent. Furthermore, the dial control of the 7" Ribbed Vibe is highly inconsistent. At times it must be twisted as far as possible before the vibrator will turn on, while at other times the vibrator turns on with a half of a twist of the dial, and when turning the vibrator on there is occasionally a stuttering of the vibrations before they become regular. In addition, little effort is required to turn the dial, so extra care must be taken to avoid inadvertently leaving the vibrator turned on slightly, a surefire way to drain the battery.
Doc Johnson's 7" Ribbed Vibe has failed to earn a place among my most favored vibrators, but were its vibrations stronger and/or more consistent down the entirety of its shaft (two AA batteries instead of one would have made a world of difference here) it might not have. Regardless, despite this deficiency and the poorly designed dial control, I believe that the 7" Ribbed Vibe from Doc Johnson's Black Magic line is a worthwhile purchase for most. It retails for under fifteen dollars and offers great versatility as a waterproof dildo, kegel exerciser, graduated probe, and targeted vibrator, and it could be particularly useful for those who are in the process of figuring out what types of sex toys work for their bodies and which features are most important to them. I intend to keep an eye out for similarly designed vibrators that provide more robust vibrations, but in the meantime I am confident that the 7" Ribbed Vibe will see much use.
